Tone
The S&P 500 fell 1.08% yesterday, the Nasdaq 100 1.97%, the Russell 2000 1.91%, and the Dow 0.08%. Premarket is mixed: the Nasdaq 100 is down another 1.18%, the S&P 500 is 0.27% lower, and the Dow and Russell 2000 are slightly higher. The S&P 500 structure score is 43, balanced: no clear edge either way. The medium trend is still gently up, the bigger picture, but yesterday's selling flattened the short-term view.
Chip stocks led the selling; Taiwan Semiconductor, named in that coverage, reports this morning. Fed's Daly said rate hikes are likely needed but not urgently. Bank of America fell 5% on an earnings miss and a $1.2 billion compliance penalty, ahead of today's bank earnings.
Producer Price Index at 8:30 Eastern. Charles Schwab, BNY Mellon, U.S. Bancorp and PNC Financial Services report before the open; Interactive Brokers and J.B. Hunt after the close.
